Whether you're starting to learn Spanish or refining your English for work, we understand that speaking in a new language can be a real challenge.
At J-Ro's Fluency Academy, we've met many students who feel terrefied of speaking English in public, and we've learned that it's not just about the language itself — it's the worry of making mistakes and wondering what others think. Today, let's dive into how we tackle these common fears at our academy.
Understanding the Fear From our experience at J-Ro's Fluency Academy, learners often feel nervous about:
Making errors and how that might make them appear.
Remembering past situations where they felt embarrassed.
Setting too high standards for themselves.
Our Personal Experience as Learners I grew up with Spanish as my first language. When I moved to the US at 14, learning English was a big step. Like many learners, I was conscious about how I sounded. But with persistence and practice, I got better at English and even started exploring other languages like French and Italian.
Jared, our Communications coach, is in the process of learning Spanish. He listens and practices regularly. But, he's still a bit cautious about starting full-on conversations. He feels it's similar to those initial nerves you get when speaking to someone new, even in your native language. As our communications spacialist, he believes that anyone can conquer their public speaking skills as long as they're willing to come out of their comfort zone and practice, practice, practice.
Real Experiences from Our Students Anna's Journey: Anna was passionate about Spanish. But during a trip, she felt really anxious talking in a local market. After some sessions with us, she grew in confidence and learned to see mistakes as part of the process.
Carlos’s Story: Carlos wanted to improve his spoken English for his job. While his writing was strong, speaking in meetings made him nervous. With our guidance, he started to express himself more confidently.
